TROUBLE LOOMS: Umeh Kalu SAN Finally Writes Don Ubani, Abraham Amah, Don Norman On Character Defamation, Make Demands | SEE LETTERS

 

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Attorney General of Abia State, Chief Umeh Kalu, is not relenting on his threat to seek a redress before a court of competent jurisdiction against Sir Don Ubani, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Elder Abraham Amah, Abia State Vice Chairman cum Acting State Publicity Secretary of the PDP; and Obinna Don Norman (Shiek Bin Norman), the state chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for allegedly defaming his character and questioning his professionalism respectively.

 

Don Ubani, the Executive Director, Centre for Equity and Eradication of Rural Poverty, Abia state, had in an open letter addressed to the Chairman, Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee Abuja, accused Umeh of being fraudulent, unethical and unprofessional and trying to cut corners at the election petition tribunal sitting in Umuahia and also withholding critical documents meant for the PDP (Petitioners).

“it is therefore disheartening and totally shameful that Chief Umeh Kalu Probably due to man’s unrestricted , insatiability for material gains, desperately wanting to be appointed for the umpteenth time as Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice decided as reported in the official proceedings of Abia state election petition tribunal holding at Umuahia to disrobe himself of every moral accolade that a Senior advocate of Nigeria should have”.

“… in order to serve as deterrent to other highly placed professionals in the mould of Chief Umeh Kalu who believe they can cut corners through fraudulent manipulations, Centre for equity and eradication of rural poverty calls on the chairman of Legal practitioners priviledges committee as headed by the chief justice of Nigeria, to investigate the fraudulent conduct of Chief Umeh Kalu...” Ubani’s letter read in part.

 

On his own part, Abraham Amah accused Umeh of ” working to subvert justice in the ongoing Abia state election petition tribunal, impersonating INEC’s counsel, and forgery”.

 

“Umeh Kalu engaged in acts of impersonation and forgery by presenting himself as the counsel to the 1st respondent (INEC) whereas he is not, and collected process for service on our lead counsel and failed to do so because the person he sid he served is unknown and does not exist within close perimeters or radius of the building that houses the office of our lead counsel”.

…”at every turn of event, Umeh Kalu has shown himself as an unrepentant misfit for the legal profession..” Amah opined in his press release.

In a separate publication, Obinna Don Norman accused Kalu of impersonating INEC’s Counsel and working to obstruct justice at the ongoing election tribunal.

 

All these allegations had been denied by Chief Umeh Kalu.

 

Taking a further step, Kalu through his legal representatives has written to the trio of Don Ubani, Abraham Amah and Don Norman (Shiek Bin Norman), demanding for retractions and an apology.

In separate letters addressed to the trio and sighted by ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER (AFNEWS), Umeh Kalu’s legal representatives, Seasons Law Firm accused Ubani, Norman and Abraham of trying to rubbish his over 4 decades of practicing as a legal luminary through their malicious remarks which are injurious to the character and reputation of their client.

“our client unequivocally denies each and every material allegation concerning him in your said press statement which in all material particulars is utterly baseless, unfounded and deliberately calculated to damage his integrity, image and reputation which he has carefully built up over the years“…. the notice signed by Adekunle Kosoko, ESQ for Seasons Law Firm, read in part.

 

Umeh’s legal representatives demands that Don Ubani, Obinna Don Norman and Abraham Amah publish a retraction of their statements and also tender an apology respectively in two national dailies (Sun newspapers and ThisDay newspapers) within seven days of receiving the letter.

They are also required to publish same via their social media handles and news blog wherein they had made their allegations earlier.

 

“….. should you fail to comply with the above stated demands, we would be compelled by our client’s further instructions to seek appropriate legal remedies against you” the letter added.
