A Cameroonian cross-dresser, Loic Njeukam, popularly known as Shakiro, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for ‘attempted homosexuality’ with his partner, Roland Mouthe alias Patricia.
The two who were sentenced on May 11, received the maximum sentence of five years in prison and fines of 200,000 CFA francs ($372.44), their lawyers told Reuters.
They were also convicted of public indecency and failing to carry identification.
Reacting to the sentence, one of the lawyers, Alice Nkom, said;
“This is a political decision.
“It’s Yaounde (the central government) that said these people must not bring homosexuality to Cameroon.”
Nkom promised to appeal the verdict.
Shakiro and two other persons were arrested February, this year, for allegedly practicing homosexuality, which is a crime in Cameroon.
