A cross section of staff of the Abia State Ministry of Agriculture Umuahia have described the mushroom farming program of the government as not yielding its purpose ever since it was established some years ago.

Speaking with Abia Facts News reporter who was on a fact finding mission on the issue, a staff in the Ministry who chose to remain anonymous for fear of victimization, said that before now, the plans for the mushroom farming was yielding a positive result, but that ever since the leadership of Hon. Uzor Azubuike as the Commissioner for Agriculture who was a co-initiator of the program left, not much has been done in this program.

She advised the government to always remain focus and be consistence in her programs such as the mushroom farming so that the public can benefit from it immensely.

Also speaking, another staff of the Ministry regretted the millions of naira that have gone down the drain under the name of mushroom farming, stressing that if these millions had been channeled into something else, it would have been better.

He further stated that their Ebonyi State counterpart had gone far in their mushroom farming initiative and that massive production is ongoing there on mushroom as the people have known its importance to human health, adding that due to the haphazard way those in the State are going about their own, it has made many people not to believe the program anymore.

In his own reaction, another individual in the department of lives stock hailed the government for embarking on the all-important program, which he said is yielding its purpose and called on the government to step up the program.

He explained that though the government has invested heavily on the mushroom project, but that he believe that soon massive production will take place when a new Commissioner is appointed for the Ministry, expressing hope that whoever would be on the saddle, must one who will continue from where the former Commissioner stopped.

Mushroom which is considered medicinal and nutritious in food ecosystem is believe to help individual body system to live longer and remain energetic.
