The Imo State House of Assembly, is taking steps to stop the abuse of the ‘Eze-Elect” title in communities.
The member representing ldeato North State Constituency, Arthur Egwim, while moving a motion on the floor of the Assembly, stressed on the need to restrict some desperate individuals who parade themselves as eze elects, carrying out the function of crowned kings.
According to Egwim, who is also the new House Committee Chairman, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, “there is nothing like Eze-elect as many have wrongly abused it. He described those parading themselves as king-elect and carrying out the duties of kings as impostors.
The motion reads: “Some self-acclaim and prospective Ezeship candidates answering Eze-elect, now parade themselves as substantive Ezes and also usurp the office of the traditional rulers by performing functions of officially recognized Ezes. This is absolutely wrong.”
Egwim called on all duly recognized and gazetted Ezes whose communities are suffering instability by the interference of those parading themselves as Eze-elect to forward a petition to the House Committee on Autonomous Community for immediate action.
