PDP Reveals Why President Tinubu Is to Blame for Stampede Incidents Across Nigeria

The PDP has condemned Tinubu’s administration for rising hunger and deadly food stampedes across Nigeria. The party claims the APC’s economic mismanagement has worsened poverty, leading to tragic losses of life.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a damning statement on the recent deadly food stampedes in Nigeria, attributing the tragedies to the “failed economic policies and insensitivity” of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

The stampedes, which occurred in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have claimed approximately 60 lives, including those of children. According to the PDP, these incidents are grim evidence of the widespread hunger, desperation, and poverty engulfing the nation.

In a statement released in Abuja by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party described the APC administration as “directionless” and accused it of plunging millions of Nigerians into abject poverty.

“The Tinubu-led administration has wrecked our economy and left many citizens unable to afford basic meals. This has resulted in rising cases of food-related tragedies, suicide, and dangerous migration attempts,” Ologunagba said.

The PDP criticized what it called the APC’s false claims of economic progress, highlighting the paradox of a resource-rich nation where citizens die in stampedes for food. The party decried the government’s failure to prioritize agriculture, food production, and social welfare while diverting resources into budget padding and contract inflation.

“The APC government continues to ignore warnings about its policies, including the unstructured floating of the naira and abrupt fuel price hikes, which have further impoverished the masses,” the statement added.

The PDP commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for his swift response in providing medical assistance to victims and expressed condolences to families affected by the tragedies in Anambra and Abuja.

Calling for an immediate review of the federal government’s economic and tax policies, the PDP urged the APC-led administration to address the root causes of hunger and poverty to prevent future tragedies.

As Nigerians mourn the loss of innocent lives, the PDP emphasized that these incidents are a wake-up call for a government to reassess its priorities and place the welfare of citizens above self-interest.

The party concluded with prayers for the deceased and wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.
