The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is facing an internal crisis as National Chairman Edozie Njoku suspends several party members, including Governor Soludo’s allies, for alleged anti-party activities. The move has heightened tensions within the party ahead of the Anambra Local Government elections.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is bracing for an internal implosion as its National Working Committee (NWC) takes decisive action against members aligned with Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Following an extensive meeting in Abuja, the NWC, led by national chairman Chief Edozie Njoku, announced the suspension of several key figures over alleged anti-party activities that threaten the party’s unity and stability.
In a bid to reposition APGA and enforce discipline, the NWC singled out members who had allegedly acted in defiance of the party’s constitution by filing unauthorized lawsuits and participating in illegal congresses and primaries. Among those suspended are Barrister Sylvester Ezeonwuka, Mr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, and Dr. Alex Obiogbolu—key players within Governor Soludo’s faction. These individuals are accused of participating in unauthorized local government congresses, which produced a list of candidates for the upcoming Anambra Local Government elections.
Njoku, speaking at a press conference, emphasized the gravity of the situation, warning that the actions of these members, including Governor Soludo himself, reflect a deep-seated disregard for the party’s structures. “The suspended members showed utter disrespect for the Supreme Court’s judgment and have consistently undermined the party’s peace and electoral value,” Njoku remarked.
The NWC further expressed discontent over the ongoing legal battle, wherein APGA members, without due authorization, filed suits in the name of the party. This, Njoku said, had led to a chaotic situation, exacerbated by the recent ruling of the Federal High Court, which questioned the legitimacy of APGA’s legal representation.
The party’s leadership condemned Governor Soludo and other elected officials under the APGA platform for engaging in actions that disrupt party unity. “The NWC strongly condemns the actions of Governor Soludo and other National and State Assembly members elected on the APGA platform. Their anti-party activities are not only distracting but also tarnishing the party’s reputation,” Njoku stated.
A disciplinary committee has been set up to further investigate the alleged misconduct and recommend appropriate actions. The NWC has made it clear that suspended members will not be eligible to contest in any forthcoming elections, including the highly anticipated Anambra Local Government polls.
The ongoing tensions within APGA, particularly in Anambra, indicate deeper fractures within the party, which may spell further instability if not resolved promptly. With Governor Soludo’s camp at odds with the national leadership, many fear that the situation could escalate into a full-blown crisis, jeopardizing the party’s future political prospects.
The APGA crisis, if unresolved, could impact the party’s standing not only in Anambra but also in other regions where it has a strong presence. The warning issued to Governor Soludo and other prominent figures suggests that more suspensions and possible expulsions could follow, signaling a turbulent period ahead for the party.
