Dr. Chima Anyaso stands at the forefront of Abia’s development as he joins Governor Alex Otti and Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu in the historic flag-off of the Nsulu International Airport, a project set to revolutionize the state’s economy.
Abia State witnessed a historic milestone as the groundbreaking ceremony for the Abia State International Airport in Nsulu, Isialangwa North Local Government Area, marked a new chapter in the region’s socio-economic transformation. Among the prominent figures present was Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, a respected business mogul and progressive leader whose unwavering commitment to Abia’s development was once again on display.

The day began with a high-profile courtesy visit to Governor Alex Otti, led by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu. Dr. Chima Anyaso’s presence underscored the unity among Abia’s political and business leaders in driving the state’s development agenda. Governor Otti welcomed the delegation warmly, emphasizing the airport project’s transformative potential for the state’s connectivity and economic growth.
At the Community School Ubaha Nsulu, Governor Alex Otti officially flagged off the airport project, lauding President Bola Tinubu for approving the expansion from an airstrip to a full-fledged airport. The project includes plans for an airport city, featuring hotels, revitalized recreational facilities, and tourism centers.
Governor Otti stated, “This airport is integral to our urbanization agenda. It is not just a facility but a catalyst for economic transformation, creating jobs and attracting investment to Abia State.”
The governor assured the host communities of fair compensation for landowners and announced a support structure to address concerns, led by his Chief of Staff, an indigene of Nsulu.
Dr. Chima Anyaso, speaking to journalists, reaffirmed his commitment to Abia’s progress. “This airport project is a dream come true for Abians. It will open doors to opportunities, improve connectivity, and showcase Abia’s potential to the world,” he said.
Performing the groundbreaking ceremony, the Minister of Aviation, Barr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, commended the collaboration between the federal and state governments. He noted that the airport would cement Abia’s status as the industrial hub of the South East, driving economic and social development.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu also highlighted the airport’s strategic importance, stating that President Tinubu’s administration remains committed to the South East’s development. He assured that the National Assembly would allocate sufficient funds for the project’s completion.
The project spans over 1,325 hectares, with plans for state-of-the-art facilities to boost tourism, trade, and industrialization. Commissioner for Transport Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu described the airport as a “gateway to the world,” while the Lands Commissioner, Mr. Chaka Chukwumereije, emphasized its role in sustainable development.
The event attracted prominent figures, including former Senate President Senator Adolph Wabara, traditional rulers, clergy members, captains of industry, and community leaders. Their presence reinforced the project’s significance to Abia’s future.
