The project for the construction of a molecular laboratory in Abia State has reached an advance stage and would soon be completed. The construction of this molecular laboratory according to Abia Development Submit which initiated the project was on the premise that it was necessary to have a testing centre for coronavirus or COVID-19 in Abia state
This project when completed will reduce the cost and time spent to send samples to other neighbouring state for the testing and confirmation of coronavirus Positive cases.it will also reduce the inherent challenges and risk which could be encountered in the process of transiting samples from the state to other state where NCDC testing laboratory centres are .
It will interest you to know that Abia State is one among the states in the country without a molecular laboratory centre where coronavirus test, among other tests can be conducted. By interpretation it means everyday , Samples of suspected COVID-19 or Coronavirus patients are still being transported to Ebonyi state and other state with NCDC approved testing facilities for testing and confirmation of COVID-19 Positive cases while the result is transmitted back afterwards to the ministry of health in Abia state.
This according to Investigation has its own associated room for risks and other attendant inconveniences. To cushion the effect of this risk and inherent inconveniences,a submit was organized with members drawn across the state comprising good spirited Abians and Captains of industry in the state under the aegis of Abia Development Summit , at the submit it became imperative to give Abia state her first ever molecular laboratory.
In a related development, Prince Chris Odinaka Igwe, a Lagos-based business mogul and a native of Umunneochi who is part of the submit and who has contributed immensely to the success of the project said the project is a welcome development and necessary at this auspicious period.
“This project is indeed a step in the right direction at this moment, it will help speed up COVID-19 testing in Abia State and make sure more Abians get to know their status”
“At this moment, what Abia State desperately needs is more testing which the governor has sanctioned. So with the laboratory in Abia State, our testing will obviously increase which will help the state combat the virus”
“I must appreciate the Abia Development Summit which is behind the molecular laboratory project, via this project they have proven to be responsible sons and daughters of Abia State. I am equally encouraging other Abians to come and join forces with us” he concluded.
