Confusion As APC, PDP Names Wike In Bayelsa Guber Election Campaign Council | READ MORE

The All Progressive Congress (APC), have named Nyesom Wike, a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a member of it’s governorship campaign council in Bayelsa state.

Recall that Wike was recently appointed by President Bola Tinubu as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to a statement signed by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, the campaign council was put together after the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, consulted with the party’s National Working Committee.

“The National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, in consultation with the National Working Committee, has approved the composition of the Bayelsa State National Gubernatorial Campaign Council with the primary purpose of leading the gubernatorial campaign in Bayelsa state and ensuring the triumph of our great party at the November 11, 2023, governorship election,” the statement read in part.

The council will be chaired by the Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya while the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, will serve as co-chairmen.

In a twist the APC National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, said the lists where Wike’s name was mentioned were not official documents of the party and should be disregarded.

The statement read;

“The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to National Campaign Council Lists for the 11th November, 2023 Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States in circulation in sections of the media. The lists are not official documents of the Party and should be disregarded.”
