The Abia State Government has dispelled the rumor making round that the State is planning to establish the Rural Grazing Area, popularly known as RUGA at AroNgwa, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area.
Speaking in a Press Conference at the Government House Umuahia, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Onyebuchi Ememanka Esq. explained that sometime now, an issue of RUGA settlement in AroNgwa has been trending all the media, explaining that such rumor is not true.
The CPS explained that in 2014, during the regime of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Federal Government requested that the State should release a land to them for the establishment of a Trailer Park for the purpose of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway project, which some detractors now said the government intends to convert it for RUGA, maintaining that there was no iota of truth in it.
He further explained that the as a result this ugly development, the Traditional Ruler of AroNgwa Ancient Kingdom Osisioma Ngwa L.G.A, Eze Ndukwe Enwereji has come under attack by his subjects who believed that he is working in cahoots with the government in this regard.
Mr. Ememanka however calls on Abians to disregard the rumor as a handy work of detractors that are bent on destabilizing the present led administration in the State just to score cheap political point.
Also speaking, the Attorney
He explained that during his tenure as Commissioner for Lands in the State, the Federal Government under the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan requested for a Land for the establishment of a Trailer Park at Umunneochi and AroNgwa for the purpose of enhancing the road construction at the area.
Barr. Ihediwa mentioned one Eze Prof. S. I. Owuala of the University of Lagos as the mastermind of these unfortunate stories because his community, Umuobasi Autonomous community in Osisioma Ngwa L.G.A shares a boundary with AroNgwa community.
He therefore challenged Eze Prof. Owuala to produce any letter of allocation of land to the Federal Government on this matter or get ready to meet the government at the court within 7 days.
The State Attorney General also dismissed the insinuations of former Governor of Abia State and Senator Representing Abia North Senatorial district Chief Orji Uzor Kalu who claimed he established RUGA at Lokpanta during his regime, pointing out that he only provided land for the selling of cattle, wondering how the State could provide about 31,000 hectares of land needed for RUGA settlement.
He assured that the State under the able leadership of Dr. Victor Okezie Ikpeazu will continue to work for the interest of the State and not for detractors who never meant well for the wellbeing of the State.
