ABIA ELECTION DEBATE 2019: ONUIGBO, NZECHI, UBA DISAGREE OVER ZONING FORMULA IN IKWUANO/UMUAHIA AMONG MANY ISSUES

It was a hothouse yesterday as the major aspirants for the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency debated and argued over issues ranging from industrialization, job creation, youth empowerment, infrastructure many more.

The Aspirants, Honourable Sam Onuigbo (PDP) – the incumbent; MacDonald Uba (APGA); Charles Nzechi (Labour Party), argued over several issues, however, the major bone of contention was the issue of zoning which Charles Nzechi raised up, accusing Hon. Onuigbo of reneging on the promise he made to the people of Ohuhu that he was going to the green chamber for one term.

Responding, Honourable Sam Onuigbo denied making any agreement with anybody and enumerated the names of persons who have served in the house stating that his tenure is the first someone from Ikwuano is representing the constituency.

MacDonald Ubah who hails from Ubakala labelled the issue of rotation the grandchild of the PDP, stating that his people have been denied the chance to serve in critical positions. He went on to say that since this dispensation, that the people of Ubakala have not been allowed to serve.

On his plans for the people, Charles Nzechi started with saying that he has already registered a business that will help in the capacity building of his people -especially the youths, where he will make a monthly commitment of 1 million naira monthly, with the aim of raising 48 millionaires in his four years, who will use the money to build their businesses.

While addressing the issue of legislators carrying out executive function, Mr Ubah promised to influence as a legislator to carry out function of an executive. He furthermore promised to dwell on the area of tourism, mines and industry; to visit the kaolin deposits in his constituency.

Similarly, Honourable Onuigbo promised to continue with his masterplan ‘EAR’ (which means EFFECTIVENESS, ACCESSIBILITY AND RESPONSIVENESS) which embodies the key qualities that are needed for effective representation.
