Former foreign affairs minister and Senator representing Abia North, General Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu has denied endorsing Abia State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Professor Uche Ikonne.
Recall that few days ago the news of General Ike Nwachukwu endorsing Professor Uche Ikonne trended online. In the said report, the General was reported to have appreciated PDP for making Ikonne their gubernatorial candidate and equally assured Ikonne of his support.
BELOW IS WHAT THE REPORT QUOTED THE GENERAL TO HAVE SAID:
“I have worked with you, you have the capacity to deliver, under your watch Abia will witness tremendous development deriving from your antecedents as Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University,
PDP made the right choice to pick you as its governorship candidate, you are experienced, competent, honest, and hardworking,
Congratulations, I am with you, count on my support and I am hopeful that with you as the governor, you will provide visionary and goal-oriented leadership”
But, in a press release signed by the General himself and made available to ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, General Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu denied endorsing the PDP gubernatorial candidate and went further to reveal the circumstances surrounding their meeting.

PRESS RELEASE
My attention has been drawn to the story, making the rounds in social media that I endorsed a gubernatorial candidate. Prince Odinaka Igwe, an Isuochi politician and a Lagos-based businessman visited me in my Lagos residence in the evening of Saturday, 25th June, 2022. He came with Prof Uche Ikonne, former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University and now PDP 2023 Gubernatorial candidate. A member of the Abia State House of Assembly from Ukwa East also accompanied them. It was purely a private visit. And without the media. Prof Ikonne, of course, mentioned that he is running for the Office of Governor of Abia State. He asked for my blessing. As it is the Igbo tradition for an Elder Statesman to bless anyone who embarks on a life’s journey, I blessed Uche Ikonne. Many, in politics, business and other human endeavours come to me for such blessings and have received them measuredly. All those contesting elective and others offices and stations in life who seek my blessings will not be denied such blessings. I have not singled out Uche Ikonne or anyone else for endorsement. May I, therefore, use this medium to urge the good people of Abia to elect only credible leaders, who have shown capacity and capability to represent us well and to develop our State which is abysmally under developed.
