The Abia State PDP has finalized its plans for the upcoming LGA elections, setting fees for nomination forms at N200,000 for male chairmanship aspirants. The party calls for unity and transparency as it prepares for primaries on October 2, 2024.
The Abia State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially announced its participation in the forthcoming Local Government Area (LGA) elections. During a meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Umuahia on September 27, 2024, the newly inaugurated PDP Caretaker Committee outlined the processes and fees for candidates aspiring for the chairmanship and councillorship positions.
The party confirmed that primaries for these positions would be conducted through two methods: consensus/harmonization or direct primaries. To facilitate this, new party cards are being issued, with House of Assembly members tasked with coordinating the processes where necessary.
For those interested in running for office, fees for obtaining nomination forms:
Chairmanship:
Female aspirants – N100,000
Male aspirants – N200,000
Councillorship:
Female aspirants – N12,500
Male aspirants – N25,000
The forms can be obtained from the state secretariat at Ogurube Layout, Umuahia. The deadline for submission of the forms is set for October 1, 2024, with party primaries to be held the following day, October 2, 2024. The party emphasized that councillorship elections would be held in INEC-designated wards, rather than ABSIEC wards.
The meeting also saw the leadership and stakeholders passing a vote of confidence in the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring transparency and unity in the candidate selection process. With these measures, the PDP aims to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
