ABHA MINORITY WHIP SECONDED A MOTION WHICH SEEKS TO HALT MULTIPLE PAYMENT IN ABSU

The Minority Whip/member representing Arochukwu State constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha has seconded a motion which seeks to abolish multiple payment of fees in Abia State University, Uturu.

Rising from a matter of urgent public importance brought by the member representing Isialangwa State constituency, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe over the high Acceptance Fee charged by the Abia State University, Uturu, he explained that the fees which include N60,000 for development, N30,000 for Acceptance as well as school fees of over N150,000 being charged by the institution.

He prayed the House to intervene and also called for the

House Committee on Education to investigate the high increase in school fees payable by students.

When the Speaker called for contributions from members, the Minority Whip/member representing Arochukwu State constituency Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha expressed gladness that the matter was brought to the House and while seconding the motion as moved by his colleague, urged that the matter be referred to the House Committee on Education.

He called on the Speaker and gis colleagues to support the

matter to be referred to the appropriate Committee, adding that the multiple payment in he school must be stopped.

Other members who also contributed include Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, Umuahia East, Hon. Paul Taribo Ukwa East, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu as well as the member for Isuikwuato State Constituency Hon. Emeka Okoroafor.

The Speaker while ruling on the matter, directed that the House Committee on Education should investigate the said increase in fee by ABSU.

The House equally resolved that the payment of these fees be stopped until the House is done with its investigation and adjourned plenary to reconvene on Monday the 7th day of October, 2019.
