DE-ACCREDITATION: Govt Allegedly Forcing Abia Poly Staff To Deceive NBTE

Following the de-accreditation of the Abia state Polytechnic (Abia Poly), by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the state government is allegedly coercing staff of the polytechnic to accept four months out of the 37-month salary arrears allegedly owed them.

 

According to a source, the staff are being offered payment of four month arrears and in turn, they would inform NBTE that the state government has settled backlogs of salaries.

“The poly industrial unions officials met with the Government officials, at Governor’s Lodge Aba a few days ago, where they were asked to sign a document to accept the 4-month salary, and thereafter, to liaise with the national bodies of the unions to inform the regulatory body to restore the accreditation.

“The unions officials first demanded to consult with their members before responding, but however they were later cajoled to sign the document. The aim of this opaque arrangement, is to sacrifice the collective interest of the long suffering staff, cut corners, deceive NBTE into restoring the accreditation, and then roll out drums to regale Abians with their achievement in this regard” a source said.

As at the time of filing this report, no government official contacted accepted to respond to questions thrown at them by AFNEWS reporter.
