The Abia State House of Assembly has delved into the saga between the Executive Chairman, Aba North Local Council of Abia State, Prince David Ikonne and a HOD, in the council, Mrs. Chidinma.
ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER had reported that Civil Servants attached to Aba North Local Council of Abia State demanded for the immediate removal of Ikonne for allegedly assaulting the Head of Department of Works, in the council.
The chairman allegedly assaulted the HOD physically, while accusing her of sabotaging his efforts in the council. Ikonne has however, denied assaulting Mrs Chidinma as purported.
Moving in on the matter, the member representing Isialangwa south state constituency, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Enyinnaya Kalu during plenary on Wednesday, notified the House of Assembly that it has the powers to invite an elected Executive Chairman of a Council when there is reason to do so according to the constitution.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, therefore asked the Clerk of the House as a matter of urgency to extend invitation letters to the following persons:
- Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area,
- Deputy Chairman of the LGA
- Head of Service of the LGA
- Treasurer of the LGA
- Head of Works Of the LGA
- Head of the LGA’s Legislative Council
- State Chairman of National Union of Local Government Employees ( NULGE )
- The Local Government Chairman of NULGE
The invitees are to be in the Abia State House of Assembly by 10am tomorrow, Thursday, October 7.
The Speaker also noted that the House resolved as a matter of urgency that the leadership of NULGE are mandated to open the gate of Aba North Local Government Area Headquarters immediately to allow business go on in the Council.
