See How School Teacher Sentenced To 28 Months In Prison For Stealing N28,000

A school teacher has been sentenced to 2 years and two-month imprisonment in Plateau State over alleged breach of trust and theft.

AFNews learnt that the culprit whose name is given as Thomas Joshua, 30, a residence of Jos, was reported to a police state on August 16 for allegedly withdrawing the sum of N28,000 from one Mr Ibrahim Saidu’s account without his consent.

On Tuesday, August 18, an Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama in Jos on Tuesday sentenced the classroom teacher to 28 months imprisonment after he had pleaded guilty. In his ruling, the Upper Court Judge, Malam Lawal Suleiman said the sentence would serve as a stern warning to those who might want to engage in the same act.

The judge, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine on each count, and as well ordered him to pay N10,000 as compensation to the complainant.

On his part, the prosecutor, Sgt. Ibrahim Gokwat before the judgment was passed, told the court that the case was reported at the Mista Ali Police station on Aug. 16 by Saidu.

“Joshua was given a phone to keep by the complainant but he removed the sim card and withdrew N28,000 from the complainant’s bank account without his consent,” Gokwat revealed.

According to him, “the offence committed was contrary to the provisions of sections 297and 272 of the Penal Code of Plateau State.”
