According to Ogwo, it is a miracle for any Abian to live beyond the life expectancy which ranges between ‘59 and 62’.
“Prof. Greg Ibe understands that people need to be alive first before engaging in other activities.
“He discovered that the life expectancy in Abia state ranges between 59 and 62 which is a very sad data. That simply means anybody that lives beyond the age of 62 is actually a miracle” he said.
Giving highlight on the ongoing free medical outreach, the spokesperson said a total of 2,511 patients have benefited, treated and referred (those with surgical cases) in Abia central; (Umuahia, Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South) within 6 days.
Cases diagnosed include; malaria, hypertension, eye problems with 1,652 patients receiving medical glasses, among other ailments.
Ogwo maintained that Professor Gregory Ibe’s medical outreach is not politically motivated as he has been in the business of reaching out to people with his God given resources.
He traced Professor Ibe’s first empowerment programme to 1991 when he established his foundation.
“the idea behind that foundation is that he wanted to give back to the society some of what God had given unto him. He used that platform to intervene in the area of education by giving scholarship to people to go and study in secondary and university”.
He explained that the medical outreach is planned to take 3 phases; 3 senatorial zones, 17 LGAs and 184 electoral wards of Abia state all aimed at taking medi-care to the door steps of Abians.
Professor Gregory Ibe is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Governorship candidate in Abia state ahead of the 2023 general elections.
