Senator Bassey Albert says the growth of any society depends on the dedication of its people towards making full use of the potentials and resources God has blessed them with.

First elected to the Senate in March 2015 to represent Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, the 48-year-old spoke on Sunday during a reception service organised in honour of the Rev. & Deac. Udo Billy Akpan, Chairman of the United Evangelical Church, Eket Conference.

Albert, who won re-election for a second time in the February 2019 senatorial elections, was a keynote speaker at the event set up by the Eket Conference of the United Evangelical Church.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources Upstream said the society is dependent on ideas that will engender development and progress.

He cited the Church as a relevant institution which could set agenda for such narratives and character moulding.

Senator OBA, as he is popularly known, charged Christians to partake fully in politics, to enable them play active roles in policy formulation and strategic planning for societal growth.

In his response, Rev. Akpan, who is the Chairman of the United Evangelical Church, Eket Conference, said he was overwhelmed by what God passed through participants at the event to do for his family.

The cleric prayed God to sustain Akwa Ibom and Nigeria in the face of numerous challenges plaguing the nation.
