Twin Petrol Tanker explosion has left an unconfirmed number of persons dead and many injured in Omurelu Community along Elele-Owerri Road, in Ikwere Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The tragic incident happened on Tuesday, September 28 after two tankers went up in flames at a check-point.

The inferno that resulted from the explosion reportedly spread in the community, destroying houses, other properties and leaving some residents with various degrees of burns.

According to reports, the incident happened when one of the tankers conveying the inflammable product was flagged down by a petroleum task force operating in the area.

While the task force was trying to ‘inspect’ the tanker driver, another tanker driver on speed allegedly lost control and hit the former at the checkpoint

The two tankers were said to have fell, spilled their contents, and burst into flames afterwards.
