Anambra State PDP Secretariat was agog yesterday as a former State Secretary of PDP Caretaker Committee High Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (Enyioha) declared intention to not only join the race but to also contest keenly for the party ticket as a PDP Son of The Soil and eventually prosecute the election to a victorious conclusion if elected flag bearer.

Speaking at the event, the party faithful stated that he joined the PDP at inception in 1999 and has never defected to another platform since then. He narrated his experience as one of the aspirants during the PDP 2013 gubernatorial primaries where Hon Tony Nwoye emerged flag bearer and got his full support in the general election. He is optimistic that other aspirants in the forthcoming contest should likewise rally around whosoever gets the party ticket this time to ensure that PDP as a party emerges victorious.

Enyioha pointed out the need for the party to present someone who will be acceptable to the electorates and has what it takes to remember those who toils day and night to see the party through to it’s dynamism in recent times. He assured members that inasmuch as he is not one of the famous moneybags in town, he still has the resources required to prosecute the election.

Enyioha lamented over the awful state of infrastructure and excruciating economic condition of the citizens in the state which he described as endowed with massive human and material resources. According to him, Anambra has no reason to wait for federal allocation to run the state considering inherent capacity to generate funds from within for onward development of critical sectors.

To this end Enyioha assured Anambrarians and PDP members in particular that he has taken it upon himself to work silently and allow his achievements speak for him if given the leadership mandate. He emphasized the need to declare a state of emergency on Anambra roads given that people can no longer travel freely between communities as they do during the Peter Obi administration due to deliberate neglect of infrastructure.

In his views for a new Anambra State, Enyioha gave a brief summary of his plan to embark on strategic recovery and improvement of the health sector, education, agriculture and other critical sectors in such a way that Anambrarians would be proud to announce themselves in any gathering as happy citizens of the state. He enumerated very interesting aspects of his manifesto that could attract foreign direct investments and get Anambra people in diaspora thinking home.

Chief Ugochukwu Okeke made it clear that the most impactful pro COVID-19 palliatives in Nigeria was experienced in Anambra state whereby the PDP played a prominent role. That gesture and many others according to him represents the disposition of the party to good governance and most importantly love for the masses.

Obuka Awka in his reaction welcomed Enyioha and his campaign team in a special way. He described Ugochukwu Okeke as a dedicated party man who has contributed his quota in no small measure to foster the continued existence of the party, adding that he has never declined each time he was called to make contributions to the party for any program..

Speaking further, Hon Nwobu informed members that Enyioha has been very responsive even when the party finds it difficult to finance strategic meetings. Obuka noted that Enyioha defied insinuations that he would work against the party structure during the caretaker committee and ended up working excellently well with the executives from state to ward level. The high point of the event was when the chairman directed Chief Ugochukwu Okeke as a member (former EXCO member) to Bow and Go ~ it was an honour well deserved. .

Hon Ndubisi Nwobu as usual promised fair and transparent primary election to elect a credible candidate for the party but will convene a meeting of all aspirants for in-house interactions before the polls. He promised to leave no stone unturned in engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure that the party gets to her destination after the polls.
