The Abia State Police Command, led by CP Danladi Isa, has launched a manhunt for gunmen who ambushed officers in Ohafia. One officer was killed, another injured, and a third rescued. Security has been tightened as investigations continue.
The Abia State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Danladi Isa, has intensified efforts to apprehend the gunmen who ambushed officers on patrol duty along Asaga Road near Terry Key in Ohafia. The attack, which occurred around 7:30 am on November 20, 2024, resulted in one officer’s death, another’s injury, and the rescue of a third officer.
According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the assailants launched an unprovoked attack on the officers. However, the patrol team repelled the hoodlums, forcing them to flee under intense police firepower.
In a swift response, CP Danladi Isa personally led a rescue operation to the scene. During the operation, ASP Etim Obungha was safely rescued, while Corporal Chukwu Odoemelam, who sustained bullet injuries, was rushed to the hospital and is reported to be responding to treatment. Tragically, ASP Etet Uboulo succumbed to his injuries, and his body was recovered during the operation.
Security agencies have since recovered some exhibits from the crime scene, which are being analyzed as part of an ongoing investigation. To bolster security in the area, tactical teams from the Ohafia Area Command are collaborating with the army’s 14 Brigade in conducting heightened patrols.
CP Danladi Isa has assured residents of Abia State that no stone will be left unturned in apprehending the perpetrators of this heinous crime. “The hoodlums who carried out this cowardly attack will be tracked down and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The Abia State Police Command also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons, especially those with bullet wounds or unusual activities, to the nearest police station.
The command extended its condolences to the family of ASP Etet Uboulo and reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
