Historic Unification of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA): A New Chapter Begins

Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA) has resolved long-standing divisions, uniting under one umbrella for the first time. The historic agreement, sealed at the 2024 AGM in Minnesota, sets a new course for collaboration, advocacy, and impactful projects.

In a landmark development, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA) has resolved long-standing divisions, uniting all chapters across the Americas under one cohesive umbrella. This milestone was officially achieved at the organization’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Bloomington, Minnesota, on November 16, 2024.

Under the theme “NIDOA: Building A Strong & United Nigerian Diaspora Community,” representatives from over 20 USA chapters, continental chairs from Canada and Brazil, and former leaders engaged in extensive dialogue to chart a unified path forward. The unification, seen as a turning point, brings renewed focus to the organization’s mission of advocacy and support for Nigerians in the Diaspora.

Key to the success of this initiative was the expertise of Dr. Diane William, an international mediator, who facilitated discussions using restorative practices to address past conflicts. This effort culminated in the establishment of a conflict resolution arm within NIDOA, aimed at fostering long-term collaboration.

The unification was formally endorsed by notable leaders, including Mr. Zee Nagberi, Mr. Bukola Olaoye, Dr. Toni Ogbanufe, and others who jointly signed the agreement. These leaders emphasized the importance of moving forward together to strengthen NIDOA’s voice and impact.

The AGM also welcomed prominent figures such as Mrs. Esther Agbaje, Assistant Majority Leader in the Minnesota House of Representatives. She commended NIDOA’s dedication to unity and its potential to amplify the influence of the Nigerian Diaspora in global affairs.

With a unified structure, NIDOA is poised to advance its agenda of bridging the gap between Nigeria and its global Diaspora. The 2025 AGM, scheduled for Columbus, Ohio, will mark another significant milestone as a single leadership body is elected to lead the organization forward.

This unification reflects the collective commitment of NIDOA to creating a stronger, more inclusive organization capable of implementing meaningful projects and advocating for policies that impact Nigerians worldwide.
