The Special Adviser on Media & Publicity to president Bola Tinubu, Ajuri Ngelale had on Thursday, September 21, 2023, described his principal as the first African President to ever ring the closing bell at the world’s second largest stock exchange, the National Association of Securities Dealers Automatic Quotation System (NASDAQ), in New York, United States of America.

Tinubu had on Wednesday rang the closing bell at NASDAQ as part of proceedings at the Executive Business Dialogue organised by the United States Chamber of Commerce, Nigerian Exchange Group Plc and Nigerian Investment Promotion Council.

The business dialogue is part of events in the Non-Deal Roadshow planned by the NGX Group to support the new administration’s efforts in re-igniting the interest of foreign investors in the Nigerian economy.

However, checks made by ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER (AFNEWS), shows that President Bola Tinubu is not the first African President to ring the closing bell at NASDAQ.

Jakaya Kikwete when he was Tanzanian president, rang the closing bell at NASDAQ in the presence of First Ladies Health Ministers, and Global Health Leaders on September 21, 2011.

President Kikwete rang the bell in honour of Global Health Commitments for Women’s Health and Women’s Cancers at the NASDAQ MarketSite in New York City’s Times Square.
