The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has cautioned the 2021 Batch B, Stream 1 corps members who have redeployed to any of the North Eastern whose route is through Plateau State, not to travel but to wait it out until the curfew imposed by the state government is lifted.
This is as he also advised corps members who are redeploying to the South Eastern and South Southern states not to embark on any travels because some states were not considered safe because of the violence which has erupted due to the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
This advice was given by Brigadier Shuaibu during the official closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch B, Stream 1 orientation course on Monday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State.
Represented by the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Ayodele Adegoke, the NYSC boss stated that these areas mentioned were not safe for corps members for the main time adding that their welfare and safety was paramount to the NYSC.
General Shuaibu disclosed that the orientation course was the first phase of the scheme adding that it was very critical to the success of the service year.
According to him, “It is the phase that equips you with the skills and values needed to excel during the service year and after. It is also the phase that exposes and empowers you to be self-reliant in life.”
He explained to corps members that their exposure to the NYSC ideals and the training they have undergone was a good platform for them to leverage to achieve their dreams legitimately.
While calling on the corps members to focus more on what they can give to better the lives of the people of their host communities, the NYSC boss charged them to serve humbly and selflessly noting that service is not partaking in the national cake as some think.
The NYSC DG tasked the corps members to avoid partisan politics and be security conscious, adding that they should arm themselves with the security tips they were exposed to in the course of the orientation programme.
