Ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Abia state, there have been claims that governor Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD, pleaded with the people of Abia North to allow him run for a second term in 2019, with an offer that he would hand over power to them after his tenure elapses.
Some stakeholders including Dr. Eme Okoro, former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Charles Ogbonna (Evulogu Ibeku), a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP); Senator Theodore Orji Kalu, member representing Abia Central Senatorial district and a former governor of Abia state, among others, have insisted that power should fall back to Abia North as recommended by the Charter of Equity.
However, the people of Ukwa/Ngwa have continued to kick against handing power to Abia North, insisting that they should retain the governorship seat come 2023.
Recall that the ruling PDP in the state, has zoned their ticket to Abia North and Central, a zoning that most have described as ‘strange’.
ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER have recently obtained a list of persons who were allegedly sent by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to attend a meeting where it was agreed that power will shift to Abia North if the governor emerges and retains power after 2019 election.
As gathered, the meeting was hosted by Professor Gregory Ibe at Gregory University in Uturu, Abia State.
