A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, (APC,) in Abia state, Chief Kachi Iheme, has canvassed the zoning of the post of Deputy Senate President to the South East region in soon-to-be ninth national Assembly.
He opined that it would be a disservice to the people of the zone if the national leadership of the governing APC deny or stop ndigbo from occupying the position.
The APC stalwart, noted that the decision of any political party in a country, like Nigeria, is supreme, stressing that, “The party has zoned the Senate Presidency to the North East zone, it will be equitable and just for the office of Deputy Senate President to be ceded to South east, because, the zone improved on their voting pattern by overwhelmingly casting their votes for President Muhammadu Buhari in the just concluded February 23 presidential election”.
According to Iheme, who spoke with newsmen at a press conference in Umuahia, the state capital on Wednesday, asserted that ,”As a major stakeholder in APC, the party will always have their say. Because, as a loyal party man and other loyal members, we will not go against the position of the party. But, the Oshiomhole-led national leadership of our party, the APC, should consider it fit and zone the post of Deputy senate President to the South East for equity and justice sake”.
Iheme, former Senatorial candidate of Accord Party(AP) for Abia north district, who defected to the APC with thousands of his supporters, before the just concluded February 23 national Assembly general election in the state, supported the position of the ex-Abia governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, advising the party’s leadership to zone the Deputy Senate Presidency seat to the South East in the ninth senate.
