ABHA: Stanley Nwabuisi Declaring Himself A Consensus Candidate Is Derogatory – Onyenucheya
Dr. David Chukwuemeka Onyenucheya, has stated that the declaration of Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi as the PDP consensus candidate for the representation of Ikwuano in the Abia State House of Assembly in 2023 is derogatory and an insult to other aspirants.
Report has it that Hon. Nwabuisi who is currently representing Ikwuano in the state Assembly, has been adopted as the consensus candidate of the party, while other aspirants are asked to withdraw from the race.
According to Onyenucheya, the news flying around of a consensus candidate is least expected from a highly respected Ikwuano PDP Caucus.
A post made by Onyenucheya on his Facebook handle read;
“It is very derogatory for an aspirant who is scared to stand election declare himself a consensus candidate”.
Speaking further on the development, Onyenucheya, who is also aspiring for the position, described the report as misinformation, maintaining that such arrangement is against principle of democracy and a violation on the rights of Ikwuano people.
“I believe such discussions didn’t hold, I believe PDP Ikwuano Caucus Chairman Rear Admiral Raphael Osundu (rtd) was quoted out of context as such a Consensus arrangement negates democratic principles”.
“Members of the caucus have debunked this consensus candidate arrangement as there was no discussion or official meeting held by the caucus” Onyenucheya was quoted as saying.
Explaining the criteria for reaching a Consensus agreement in the party, he said;
“For a consensus candidate to emerge, other aspirants MUST agree and SIGN it. If not, it is null and void!
Every Ikwuano born has the right to vote and be voted for, having quality representation at the State House of Assembly overrides the argument for Ikwuano to have a high ranking member in the state house.
Reactions from the Ikwuano delegates and also the Ikwuano PDP members have expressed their dissatisfaction.
On the long run forcing Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi as a Consensus Candidate of the party will lead to a collapse of the party in Ikwuano as a lot of PDP members are already dissatisfied that there is no way Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi will represent them at the State House while his uncle Colonel Akobundu also represent them at the Senate.
Other aspirants who have worked hard for the party and are very keen to serve should have the opportunity to complete the tenure of Oloko clan or a lot of party members will work against the party at the general election like it happened in 2015 when the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) won the state house seat in Ikwuano” Onyenucheya stated.
He further said;
“there’s really no need for several calls to aspirants for the 2023 Ikwuano State constituency position to step down for Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi to return to get the high ranking membership position; if he has performed well the delegates will definitely vote him to return to the state house.
We must give all aspirants a level playing ground rather than violate the fundamental rights of the good people of Ikwuano. It will be very unfortunate for the people who see light at the end of this electioneering tunnel to be left in the darkness of dissatisfaction for the poor representation by the incumbent legislator.
If a legislator could do nothing with his first term, what is the guarantee that he is going to do well in his second term? Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi is likened to the man with the one talent in the book of Matthew 25:18 the Lord said “Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents”.
