The Abia State Orientation Agency (ABSOA), led by Acting Director General Ure Abazie, launched a major sanitation campaign in Aba, educating residents on the importance of participating in monthly cleanup exercises and maintaining a clean environment.
The Abia State Orientation Agency (ABSOA), under the leadership of Acting Director General Ure Abazie, has taken significant steps to improve sanitation in Aba, the commercial nerve center of Abia State. On June 28, 2024, ABSOA conducted a widespread educational campaign aimed at encouraging residents to participate in monthly cleanup exercises and maintain a cleaner environment.
The campaign kicked off at the popular Bata area in Aba and extended to other strategic locations including Ariaria International Market and Ogu Hill. During the sensitization exercise, Ure Abazie emphasized the importance of regular participation in the monthly sanitation efforts, urging residents to keep their gutters clean to prevent flooding, properly dispose of waste at designated dumpsites, and avoid littering.
“Sanitation is not just an activity; it is a responsibility we all share to ensure a healthier and safer environment for ourselves and future generations,” Abazie stated. She encouraged Aba residents to embrace the culture of cleanliness to prevent environmental hazards and improve public health.
For the past two months, ABSOA has been on a mission to reorient the people of Abia State on effective waste management and sanitation practices. This campaign has already covered major areas in Umuahia, the state capital, and Aba, with plans to extend the initiative to other local government areas.
One of the significant challenges faced by the current Abia State Government upon assuming office was the widespread issue of waste management, with heaps of refuse littering various parts of the state. However, the administration, led by Governor Alex Otti OFR, has made commendable progress in clearing these waste heaps and maintaining an effective waste disposal system.
The ongoing efforts by ABSOA are a crucial extension of the government’s commitment to a cleaner Abia State. The agency’s educational campaigns are designed to instill a sense of responsibility and community among residents, ensuring they understand the importance of proper waste disposal and environmental hygiene.
ABSOA’s campaign in Aba is a significant step forward in addressing the city’s sanitation challenges. By educating the public and promoting active participation in cleanup activities, the agency aims to create a sustainable culture of cleanliness and environmental awareness. This initiative is expected to have a lasting impact, contributing to a healthier, more livable Aba.
As ABSOA continues its mission across Abia State, the collective efforts of the government and the residents will play a vital role in maintaining and improving the overall sanitation and environmental health of the region.
