Finidi George steps down as Super Eagles head coach following NFF’s move to hire a foreign technical adviser.
Finidi George has stepped down from his role as head coach of the Super Eagles. The decision, believed to have been made on Saturday, comes shortly after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced its intention to appoint a foreign technical adviser.
Former Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, confirmed Finidi’s resignation on his X account, stating, “News just in: Finidi George @FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position.”
Finidi, who was appointed on April 29, 2024, to replace Jose Peseiro after his contract expired in February, oversaw a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic during his brief tenure. His resignation follows the NFF’s recent strategic move to bring in a foreign expert to lead the national team, prompting Finidi to step down from his position.
