Why CBN Should Be Blamed For High Price Of Airline Tickets – Senate | READ DETAILS
The Nigerian senate has condemned the high price of international airline tickets. This was sequel to a motion moved by Senator Olujimi Abiodun (APC, Ekiti South) at the plenary session on Wednesday.
Senator Olujimi was represented by Senator Bala Na’Allah (APC, Kebbi South) to move the motion at the plenary.
The Senator said the high price of airline tickets has affected traveling plans of many Nigerians while neighboring countries in the African continent get flight tickets at cheaper prices.
She claimed that the price of airline tickets were inflated because the Central Bank of Nigeria continuously blocked the airline funds which he summed up to be over $717m.
Mrs Olujimi therefore urged the senate to encourage president Muhammadu Buhari to direct the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele to pay up the blocked funds to the affected airlines to reduce the burden of high airline tickets.
She also urged the senate to appeal to airlines operating in Nigeria not to withdraw their operations.
Many of the senators supported the motion when it was thrown to debate.
They condemned the high price of international airline tickets on the ground that Nigerian citizens are paying the most expensive airline tickets in the world.
Some of the senators who contributed on the motion are, Orji Kalu (APC, Abia North), Aliyu Abdullahi (APC, Niger North) and Istifanus Gyang (APC, Plateau North).
The senate president, Ahmad Lawan adopted and granted prayers of the motion.
