The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has revealed President Muhammadu Buhari’s stand on the proposed state of emergency declaration in his State.
The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), and the minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, had on Wednesday, noted that the Federal Government may declare a state of emergency in Anambra state to ensure a hitch free November 6, gubernatorial election in the state.
“No possibility is ruled out by government in terms of ensuring the sanctity of our democratic order, in terms of ensuring that our elections in Anambra hold.
“And you cannot rule out the possibility of declaration of state of emergency where it is established, in essence, that there is a failure on the part of the state government to ensure the sanctity of security of lives, properties and democratic order” the AGF had said.
After meeting with the president on Thursday, October 7, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja governor Obiano told state House correspondents that the President opposed the idea of a state of emergency in Anambra, adding that he does not want any kind of intimidation ahead of the poll.
The governor also said that he reported the AGF to the President over his comment.
“That’s a very unfortunate comment by the Attorney-General, Malami. Very unfortunate. I also reported that to the President and this is not in the books of the President because he knows that Anambra has been the safest state in Nigeria for seven years plus” the governor said.
