In a press release made available to AF NEWS and signed all the South East governors, they unanimously congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for emerging the Director General World Trade Organization (WTO) and also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for nominating and supporting her for that position.

SOUTH EAST GOVERNORS FORUM CONGRATULATES DR NGOZI OKONJO- IWEALA, THANKS MR PRESIDENT FOR THE SUPPORT.
1. It is with gratitude to God Almighty that we the Governors of South East profoundly celebrate the emergence of our dear daughter, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the first African and first female Director -General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
2. It is indeed heart-warming that our daughter emerged meritoriously in the world contest as Director-General, World Trade Organization at a time the globe needs extra-ordinary leadership to inject best principles that will enhance trade liberalizations and global economic management in the comity of international economic institutions.
3. We pay glowing tribute to the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic, President Muhamadu Buhari, GCFR for the support, solidarity and political will that launched a Nigerian to the apex seal of the World Trade Organization
4. This singular gesture of Mr. President has again demonstrated his progressive disposition to the dignity of Africa and his abiding faith and unflinching commitment to an egalitarian Nation
5. We therefore commit the brand new Director-General of WTO to the grace of God that she may be filled with vigour and wisdom to discharge meritoriously, the mandates of her office
6. Once again, we say congratulations to the new Director -General WTO and thank you immensely, Mr President.
