Peter Obi’s media adviser, Val Obienyem, has dismissed rumors of his arrest by the DSS, clarifying that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate was not in Anambra State at the time.
In a swift response to growing rumors, Val Obienyem, the Media Adviser to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has dismissed claims that his principal was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his home in Anambra State.
Reports had been circulating across various media platforms suggesting that Peter Obi was apprehended by the DSS, sparking widespread concern among his supporters and the general public. However, in a statement released on Tuesday, Obienyem clarified that these reports are completely unfounded and baseless.
Obienyem categorically stated, “There was no DSS operation at his residence, and no arrest was made.” He further explained that Peter Obi was not even in Anambra State at the time of the alleged incident. “As of Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda attending important engagements. He has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, where he is actively involved in party and national matters,” he added.
This statement by Obi’s media aide aims to put an end to the speculation and restore calm among supporters who have been worried about the possible implications of such an arrest. Obienyem’s clarification also emphasizes that there were no DSS activities at Obi’s residence, debunking the rumors that have caused confusion and uncertainty.
The clarification comes amid heightened political tensions within the Labour Party and across Nigeria, where rumors and misinformation can quickly gain traction. Obienyem’s assertion is expected to provide much-needed reassurance to the Labour Party faithful and reaffirm Obi’s ongoing commitment to his political activities.
With this rebuttal, the Obi camp hopes to dispel any lingering doubts about his freedom and mobility, and refocus attention on the critical national and party issues at hand.
