POPULAR ABIA OAP COMMEMORATES WORLD POETRY DAY WITH A SPECIAL POEM LACED WITH IGBO LANGUAGE

0

In commemoration of the World poetry day which held on Thursday March 21st, 2019 all over the world, I wrote a poem, a combination of English and my native Igbo language (Ohafia) in Abia State, South East Nigeria.

This is in line with this year’s theme which encouraged poets to write in their mother tongues.

I titled this poem “Dark is My Skin”

The poem preaches against discrimination.
It expresses the fact that we are created by the same God no matter the colour of our skin or the tongue we speak.

He blesses us despite who we are or where we are from.

Good and evil doesn’t choose colour, but bequeath who opens his or her door.

My poem is in rhymes, an expression of who we are and who God is to us.

This is my work, I was inspired by UN’s determination to fight discrimination and it’s ugly effects on the peaceful coexistence of mankind.
