The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has assured the Enugu state governor, Peter Mbah that the Peace In The South East Project (PISE-P), will support his new Enugu city initiative.
Governor Mbah’s new Enugu city initiative aims at bringing massive development in the state, making it a premium destination for businesses, tourism, investments, among others.
Speaking, Kalu commended Mbah for conceiving an idea of an ultramodern city scape, adding that the initiative will not only put the State up on world map through its developmental strides, but create massive employment for the teeming unemployed youths and help to reduce crimes both in the State in particular and South East in general.
The Deputy Speaker also called on all lover of development and the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo to ensure that the New Enugu is realized as a destination for Nigerians.
Kalu revealed that the initiative is in line with one of the 8 pillars of PISE-P, an initiative that projects a non kinetic approach to resolving the hydra headed issue of insecurity and infrastructural decay in the south east region.
The new Enugu city seats on 10,000 hecters of land off Enugu-Abakaliki road, which traverses Enugu North, Enugu South, Enugu East, and Nkanu West LGA’s of the State.
Speaking during the flag off of 17 kilometer roads and other infrastructure which marked the beginning of constructions, Governor Mba hinted the new Enugu city is in keeping with his campaign promise he made to the people of the State.
The idea is to bring back the city’s glory as one of the top three (3) States in Nigeria.
When completed, the city will have a dedicated power project, power plant, a central public utility which will be provided by the government, and access to a high-speed internet system.
