Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has attributed Nigeria’s lack of progress to the persistent failure of leadership to implement sound policies. Speaking at an event in Abuja, Obasanjo warned that the nation is moving backward due to its inability to act on well-crafted policies, turning Nigeria into what he described as a “burial ground” for unimplemented ideas.
The former president emphasized that Nigeria does not lack policies needed to propel it toward greatness but is severely hindered by leaders who fail to execute them. He noted that countries that have achieved progress do so through action, not wishful thinking, adding that Nigeria’s habit of “taking two steps forward and three steps backward” has been detrimental to its growth.
“Nigeria is not short of policies, but it has become a burial ground for unimplemented or unexecuted policies,” he said. He stressed that as long as leaders continue to abandon important initiatives, progress will remain elusive in all aspects of national life.
His remarks have sparked widespread reactions, with many calling for immediate action to break the cycle of policy neglect and underperformance in Nigeria’s leadership.
