The Nigeria Senate on Wednesday went into emergency closed-door session over the decision of the Federal Ministry of Labour to proceed with the recruitment of the 774, 000 workers.
AFNEWS recalls that Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) in June had a disagreement with the National Assembly over the execution of the scheme.
Lawmakers had suspended the Public Works Programme after accusing Keyamo of hijacking the recruitment exercise from the National Directorate of Employment, which got N52billion approval to carry out the programme.
But on Tuesday, Keyamo disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari has asked him to go ahead with the recruitment process.
“I have the instructions of my boss, Mr President, to proceed with the supervision of the preparation for the execution of the programme in accordance with the law,” said Keyamo in the statement.
