Against the backdrop of the recently published news of the death of Master Knowledge Uzochi Ndubueze, an eighteen year old Abia born medical student, who until his demise was studying in Russia, the Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu Prof Gregory Ibe has lent his voice to calls for the conduct of thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate tragedy.
In a press statement made available to journalists in Umuahia, Prof Ibe while commiserating with the family of the deceased student decried the high level of discrimination faced by Nigerian students studying in foreign countries as against the VIP treatment accorded expatriate students in Nigeria. According to him, ” As a parent and educationist, I am particularly pained by the untimely death of this promising Abian and will like to use this medium to condole with the family who have been thrown into unexpected mourning by this tragedy”. He therefore called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema and the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa to in his words “launch a high powered investigation into the unsavory incident as a way of exposing the hazards and perils confronting Nigerian students in foreign countries”.
It will be recalled that AFNEWS recently broke the sad news of the tragic death of Master Knowledge Ndubueze under mysterious circumstances after speaking with the grieving father Prof Ndubueze Amaechi.
