The Vice Chancellor Abia State University Uturu, Prof. Eleazar Uche Ikonne has hinted that his administration has attracted the presence of various international organisations to the academic programs of the institution due to the intense research the school recently embarked upon.

Prof. Ikonne who stated this during an interview with  Abia Facts Online TV  program Focal Point in his office explained that since 2015 when he assumed post as the 7th substantive Vice Chancellor of ABSU, he has been able to  partner with the University of Mexico and the University of York in the United States in terms of research programs,  explaining that the remarkable research efforts of lecturers from the school, made it possible for international organizations to partner with them, and thanked  the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for sponsoring  their lecturers for more research in their various fields.

He explained that his core mandates which are Teaching, Research and Community Service are seriously being tackled, hinting that he inherited a disciplined academic environment from his predecessor Prof. Chibuzor Ogbuagu whose administration immensely helped in terms of teaching and moral conduct.

Prof. Ikonne further said that there are no more issues of missing results as everything is now done online which has improved the academic history of the University, adding that ABSU is one of the cheapest Universities in the South East.

He said that Students of the institution now address him as Senior Course Rep on campus, because he is accessible to them, explaining that they all have access to his mobile phone number to call or SMS him whenever they have issues bothering them, adding that the students feel secured with him as their VC.

On crime in the school, the VC said the issue of cultism which the school was known for in the past is now a thing of the past as various committees have been set up to check it on campus which is made up of the Police, Army, DVC Academics, DSS, and Hostel Owners Association, maintaining that the committee has so far done a lot in curtailing cases of rape, snatching of students hand bags etc.

The VC went further to say that his administration has attracted a lot of infrastructure through TETFUND, pointing out that the school now has its Faculty of Law in Umuahia campus and Faculty of Engineering in Osisioma Aba.

He lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for helping the school to accredit most of its courses, adding that soon the school will start offering admission in the Faculty of Pharmaceuticals and other courses so that prospective students can make ABSU an institution of first choice.
