Former Senator Shehu Sani discusses the procedural steps needed to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while activist Aisha Yesufu calls for his removal following controversial remarks.
In a recent development, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has shared insights on the procedural requirements to impeach Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. Speaking through his social media account on X (formerly Twitter), Sani emphasized that a senator must first consult colleagues and secure enough support before initiating an impeachment process. However, he warned of potential consequences for such actions, stating that a failed impeachment attempt could lead to the senator’s suspension until the next election cycle.
Sani’s remarks come amid growing calls for Senate President’s impeachment. Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu also voiced her opinion, urging senators to replace Akpabio, especially following his controversial comments preceding the “EndBadGovernanceInNigeria” protest. Yesufu pointed out that despite the public’s dissatisfaction, Akpabio seemed indifferent, suggesting that the Senate would continue its activities regardless of public outcry.
