Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State, Obinna Nwosu on Saturday, 12th March 2022 declared his intention to contest for the Ikwauno/ Umuahia Federal Constituency seat at the State secretariat of the party along Azikwe Street in Umuahia.
While speaking to his supporters and party members that came to witness the declaration, he said that it is time to realign things to the trajectory the people used to have during the time of late Dr Michael Okpara. According to him, the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia have not had it better as the people that have represented them have not done enough to bring the dividends and Democracy to them.
Nwosu who expressed his satisfaction with the number that turned out for the event of which most were youths, assured the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia that he will give them adequate representation if elected in 2023 to represent them in the green chamber. He promised to attract projects, improve infrastructure, create jobs and empower the people adequately.
When asked by ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER (AFNEWS) what informed his decision to choose to contest under the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), he said that, as a youth, the party embraces and makes room for youth, and that in its manifesto, it provides room for 35% youth inclusion, and that made it easy to align with them, even as he encouraged youths and vibrate minds to join politics to change the bad narrative that has been over time.
He asserted that the recently signed electoral act will worked for his favour as well as the party to clinch various elective positions as the time where some people manipulate and rig elections with bogus and manufactured figures are over.
The State Publicity Secretary, Mr Owusuanya, who also addressed the crowd, assured Obinna Nwosu that the party will give him a level playing ground, as well as other aspirants in the forthcoming primary election of the party. He lauded his bravery to contest and assured him of the party’s support. He revealed that the PDP has never won election in Abia State aside rigging. However, he stated that because of the electoral law recently passed, that will not happen again.
The State Chairman, Comrade Don Obinna Norman who was represented by the State Secretary, reinstated that the party will give him and other aspirants a fair playing ground. He prayed the grace of God to see him through.
Among those that were present, includes; Chief Emma Emenike (Chairman, Umuahia North), Prince Kelechi Apugo (Vice State Chairman), Orji Awa Kalu (Abia State Organizing Secretary) and many others.
