The re-elected Honorable Member representing Osisioma, Ugwunagbo and Obingwa Federal Constituency, Honorable Solomon Adaelu has hit the ground running by advising the 9th National Assembly to view and take the issues of Science and Technology very serious.

He explained in this open to the Speaker, that Science and Technology is the way to go now because every development globally is linked to it. READ THE FULL LETTER;

YOUR EXCELLENCY
THE SPEAKER
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF NIGERIA

NEED TO GIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PRIORITY ATTENTION ON THE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA OF THE 9TH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY.

I write with reference to the above subject matter: To Express my views on the role of science and technology in defining our dynamic future.

As we move into a world where we are increasingly becoming more and more advanced in robotics, artificial intelligence, internet of things and blockchain, Many countries have positioned themselves so perfectly to take advantage of these new disruptive technologies.

These three break through technologies combined with blockchain is what many believe will create the fourth industrial revolution

Whether you have been paying attention or not,its not that hard to see that every thing around us is quickly becoming automated by machines and we are moving more and more into this digital world.

We are in the era of the most disruptive technology man has seen. Africa was not part of the first, second and third industrial revolution. The fourth industrial revolution, driven by digital transformation is already here.

For our country Nigeria to tackle future challenges of security ,pollution, growth and stable economy, corruption,it must first develop her science and technology .

Self dependency in science and technology is very essential for the progress and development of every sector of our society.

According to Bill Nye,an American engineer “science is the key to our future and if you dont believe in science then you’re holding everything back “without science no nation can dream of prosperity and freedom.

Countries such as USA, China, France, Russia, South Korea, Japan, UK etc are advanced by virtue of their huge investment in science and technology. These countries have developed and made state of the art technological advancement in surveillance, weapon monitoring devices that is readily available to tackle any emergencies .

More so, they have made unprecedented advances in Education, medicine, energy, vehicles,e commerce, insurance, robotics, artificial intelligence, elections and voting .etc.

Indigenous technology should be the basis for this deliberation.

During the Nigeria civil war for example, an average black group, pushed by necessity, gave a clear indication of their inherent technological method. It is clear to me that given adequate motivation and proper leadership, the indigenous budding scientists without formal education who have raw skills and ingenuity can excel world wide.

You will agree with me that the more advanced a country is technologically, the more it’s granted a table at the world’s affairs.

Science and technology must be given attention at all levels of our educational system. Healthy competition should be encouraged in our universities.

Federal ministry of science and technology should as a matter of urgency review its core mandate and schedule to raise awareness of the importance of science in our society.

Considerable budgetary provision in this area should be given priority. No nation has ever attained economic prosperity without investing in science.

I therefore propose that the 9th national assembly of Nigeria give priority and make science and technology part of its legislative agenda.

I urge you to consider this sensitive and very important topic for the future advancement of our great nation
Thank you .

HON ENGR. SOLOMON ADAELU MEMBER REPRESENTING OBINGWA/UGWUNAGBO/OSISIOMA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY
