When i first heard of Dr. Barrister Okwun Ojah in 2017, i immediately thought he is one of those political philanthropist who appear during the election and disappear after the election. I honestly wrote him off until i was opportune to speak to him via phone.
During our first phone conversation, i asked him a critical question and his answer immediately changed my mindset about him and also revealed to me that we indeed still have true philanthropist.
I know you want to know what i asked ? hahahahaah.. i will surely tell you.
I asked him – Dr, with all you are doing for your people, do you have any political interest?
He replied – No no no.. i am not interested in politics, i am a medical doctor and i am also a lawyer by training in Australia. I am doing very well over here. My only interest is to make my people smile and to encourage good businessmen like you.
With all he was doing in Ohafia his LGA as at 2017 (which i will elaborate later), we decided to decorate him with ABIA FACTS NEWSPAPER AWARD FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.
Immediately the news filtered to him about our intention to give him an award, he called me on phone and asked.. What should i pay for the award ?
I laughed.. I said ” Dr.. our award is not paid for, we celebrate people who have done well via our award, we dont charge money for our awards” He sounded surprised considering everything happening around awards in Nigeria.
But he then did something that amazed me, he asked “What do you need that can make your work more effective” and i said laptop and a camera.
God then used him to acquire for us our first Video camera and a brand new laptop.. I dont need to tell you how much it cost.
Meanwhile, before even meeting him and talking to him, Dr. Barr. Okwun Ojah had already built a one storey civic centre for his people, equiped the upstairs with computers to enable community youths study computer, do online registration. He provided borehole for the centre and also power generator.
He didnt stop there, he purchased a new transformer for his people, energized it. Dont forget, a transformer cost a fortune and energizing it does not also come easy.
While people were still wondering about what he has done, he intervened in a farm road rehabilitation and brought smile on the faces of farmers in his community.
For me, Dr. Barr. Okwun Ojah has moved from being a friend to a great mentor in my life. He keeps teaching me new things about giving, about helping the needy, reaching out and about putting smiles on the faces of the people.
Everyday, every week, every month since i got to know him, he is pushing one project or the other for the good of the people.
Just recently, he embarked on a water project in Ohafia and as at the last count he has dug more than 7 boreholes in different communities in Ohafia. Based on what i gathered, that project runs into millions of naira.
Remember, the police building that was burnt down in Ohafia, he is handling the reconstruction of a part of it. I also remember recently, he contributed to providing shelter for a homeless widow in Ohafia.
Today, a football competition was kicked off in Ohafia sponsored by this man.. Indeed he is a blessing to his people and Abia State.
I convert his selflessness.. God bless Dr. Barr. Okwun Ojah
