Recently, Isu community in Arochukwu L.G.A of Abia State, was in the news again. The news coming from there is not a good one at all.
One will wonder what the news is all about? Well, Isu community shares boundary with their neighboring Utuma and Ukwa Clan all in Biase and Odukpani Local Government of Cross River State.
The good relationship which predated their fore-fathers, and has existed between the people of these clans was forced to an abrupt end following a discovery of a huge lime stone deposit at the boundary between Isu community and their neighbors in Cross River.
Ever since, both communities in their own right have laid claims and counter claims over the mineral resources in the affected area.
This mineral resources has instead course more harm than good, as many lives have been lost as a result of right of ownership of the land.
Sometimes in 2019, crises ensued between Isu people and their Cross River neighbors resulting into bloodshed, while many residents of Isu community flee their homes for safety and have remained displaced ever since.
All thanks to the Member representing Arochukwu State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha who took the bull by the horns through his quick and prompt intervention by attracting the attention of the National Emergency Management Agency and Abia State Emergency Management Agency to the Isu issue.
Not long, relieve materials came to the displaced people of Isu community. But though relieve has come their way, the point is that respite has refused to come the way of both sides.
On Monday, a fresh attack erupted in the area as people from the Cross River attacked the Isu people which was said to be a reprisal attack, butchering one person in the crises while three were seriously wounded.
