COVID-19: Akwa Ibom Records 14 New Cases, Begin Contact Tracing

At least 14 persons have been infected with COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom State, in the resurgence of the pandemic which is fast spreading across the country, the state Commissioner for Health, Prof Augustine Umoh, has said.

Speaking with newsmen on Thursday, Umoh said the affected persons have been quarantined in their homes while contact tracing of members of their households and other associates is ongoing.

He said, “As I speak, the 14 cases that we have now are in home isolation and monitoring. The process of contact tracing has re-commenced for those that we could pick, those that are positive for management, follow-up, and monitoring.

“We have about 14 active cases in the state. So, this is something we have brought to the notice of all Akwa Ibom residents for them to be prepared.

The commissioner reminded residents of the state to observe COVID-19 protocols by regularly washing their hands and observing social distancing, use of face masks, and hand sanitizers.

He said his ministry had commenced another round of public education to create awareness as the mode of transmission of the disease has not changed.
