On Friday, the United States Space Force revealed their uniforms, but Twitter users wondered why they were camouflaged.

“The first #SpaceForce utility uniform nametapes have touched down in the Pentagon,” Space Force tweeted on Friday.

Many Twitter users asked why the Space Force would need camouflage uniforms while defending the United States from the void of space. “Camo in space? WTF? More wasted tax dollars. Great job!” one user wrote.

Space Force responded to the user’s comment, saying that they were using current army and air force uniforms to save money. “USSF is utilizing current Army/Air Force uniforms, saving costs of designing/producing a new one,” they tweeted. “Members will look like their joint counterparts they’ll be working with, on the ground.”

Space Force did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Others simply ridiculed the new military branch for the uniforms. “In space, no one can hear you be ridiculous,” Chernobyl writer and producer Craig Mazin tweeted.

“Have they never seen space before?” paranormal investigator and author John E.L. Tenney wrote.

Singer-songwriter John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats couldn’t help joining in. “[O]thers have pointed this out before me, but I think it bears repeating that the uniforms for the soldiers who will be in space are camp ,which will make them extra-visible in space,” he wrote. One user did suggest a different form of camouflage.

Others defended the uniforms and called out Twitter users for mocking the uniforms. This thread is loaded with leftists mocking the Space Force uniform. Its a good example of the problems in Politics. They know nothing about why uniforms are camo, assume Space Force personnel will operate in space, but then call for changes to policy based on their ignorance,” journalist Tim Pool wrote.

Journalist and veteran Shelley Carbone wrote that “not everyone is going to be floating around up there.”

The U.S. Navy responded to the tweet to compliment the branch on the new uniforms. “That’s out of this world! What are the coordinates? Let’s trade,” the branch posted on their Twitter account.

Still, some people couldn’t resist drawing the comparison to Star Wars’ stormtroopers wearing all white uniforms in the heavily forested fictional planet Endor.

“This is the perfect uniform for battling Stormtroopers on Endor,” professor Sarah Parcak wrote. Another user wrote that the white stormtrooper armor would be more fitting. “[C]onsidering your leader, this is probably more on point,” she wrote, sharing a photo of a stormtrooper.
