The INEC office in Umu-Ikaa, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Abia State, was yesterday burnt down by unknown persons, barely two days after the rally by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Alex Otti.
The Alex Otti Campaign Organization are of the view that the massive turn out at each of the rallies held same day at Isiala Ngwa North and South by Dr. Otti and APGA had sent shock waves across the camp of the ruling PDP in Abia State and particularly the government house, Umuahia.
This is the second time that INEC office in Isiala Ngwa is being burnt down and fingers are being pointed towards the PDP by APGA. In 2015, in the heat of the controversy surrounding the governorship election in Abia State, thugs allegedly loyal to the PDP were alleged to have set the INEC office at Omopa (pronounced Umuoba) on fire, prompting the relocation to Umu-Ikaa.
It was gathered that INEC had continued to operate from the old office until a few weeks ago when they eventually decided to relocate from the local government headquarters, but was resisted by the PDP controlled authorities at the local government. It took the mobilisation of armed military men from an army formation in Abia State by the INEC authorities to get the INEC office move eventually.
Is the burning of the new INEC office a grand plan to scuttle and rig the 2019 election or is it by accident?
AFN is conducting more investigation..
