In less than 24 hours to the Gubernatorial and State house of Assembly elections, the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, on Friday redeployed Abia state Commissioner of Police (CP) Mr Etim Ene Okon
IGP Adamu brought in Charles Awotinde as a replacement for Mr Etim Ene Okon, as the Command CP, strictly for purpose of election.
The change in the past few days which us common with election season, to avoid reinforcing compromised officers, came as a directive of the Acting I.G, who had on Wednesday deployed seven Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) to the geo-political zones in the country. Charles Awotinde who before his redeployment to Abia, was the CP in Ebonyi state.
In the same light, the IGP also deployed 10 Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to the police zonal commands and additional Two Hundred and Seventy Seven Commissioners of Police to reinforce the job of Commissioners of Police in the thirty-six State Commands and the FCT.
Meanwhile, the IGP reinstated the commitment of the police to ensuring a free fair and credible election that is also violent free, as seen in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections. “The Nigeria Police Force shall remain civil, firm, optimally professional and apolitical in the discharge of our duties in the 9th March, 2019 elections,” he said.
