A statue of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi has been erected at the helicopter crash site in Calabasas, California, to commemorate the 2nd year anniversary of Kobe’s demise.
Sculptor Dan Medina produced the 160-pound statue, which depicts Kobe Bryant in full Lakers gear with his arm around his daughter Gigi, who is also wearing a Lakers uniform and holding a basketball.
The words “Heroes come and go, but legends are forever” are carved into the platform below, along with the names of the nine people who died in the crash on January 26, 2020.
“You come up here and it is kind of emotional,” Medina told the Los Angeles Times. “The flowers, the jerseys, the hats blow away, and I think we need something more permanent.”
The statue will be there for a limited time, according to Medina’s plans, and will be visible from sunrise to sunset. The sculptor aims to find a permanent home for his life-size version of the artwork in downtown Los Angeles.
